GreenMachine wins prestigious Golden Eurobike Award
Under the patronage of
the world famous iF Design from Hannover, this
year’s Eurobike Awards were presented by a seven person jury. The
Eurobike cycle show, held at the end of August in German Friedrichshafen is the
number 1 bicycle trade show in the world. And for the third year in a row the
Eurobike Awards were selected by a professional jury prior to the show. On the
2nd show day official announcements were made on the bronze, silver and gold
winning Awards. Surprisingly Flevobike’s GreenMachine was the very first
recumbent bike in the history of the Eurobike Awards, to be rewarded with a
Gold Award.
Very, very remarkable, especially when one takes into consideration
that out of nearly 300 entries, the critical and expert jury only selected 4
entries to be rewarded with Gold. In the case of the GreenMachine one can
easily consider this as a breakthrough in the bicycle culture of the Eurobike
Show and the Eurobike Awards.
“Integration
solutions for bikes” was the number one topic of the third-ever Eurobike
Award competition. Only 4 entries managed to meet the jurors strict evaluation
criteria and won the gold seal. Integration will be an important design
direction for future bicycle designs: integrated product development and
integrated designs away from the current Christmas tree-like assembly bicycle products.
No wonder why in the view of the iF jury the GreenMachine was fully spot-on. They
were lyrical in their praise regarding the concept, innovation and the superb
level of integration: “The GreenMachine represents a new concept for
recumbent bikes: Everything here is of a piece and ideally encapsulated —
perfect industrial design in the best sense of the word. The transmission and
gears are virtually maintenance-free in this enclosed system. In view of the
fact that this design was moreover created by a small firm, you can only take
your hat off to it.”
The GreenMachine is the
culmination of more than 20 years of Flevobike’s pioneering spirit. It’s
an integrated concept with all ideas and technologies, which have been
developed since the start of the company in 1984, coming together in it’s
best and most mature shape. Hence the result: a beautiful, modern and contemporary
mobility product that outshines other bicycle products when it comes to ease of
usage, riding comfort, speed, number of applications and lack of maintenance.
Needless to say that the
Flevobike crew was totally excited about the jury’s choice. Johan Vrielink, Flevobike’s
founder and partner, considers the Golden Eurobike Award as the pinnacle of 20
years of pioneering and hard working. At last the recognition of his somehow recalcitrant
and disruptive way of thinking, but always very consistently and leading to
products that sometimes may be seemed too advanced. Anyway, to the Eurobike
Award jurors it didn’t matter, they were totally aligned with and in
favour of Vrielink’s and Flevobike’s train of thoughts.
