Time to improve and re-launch the Versatile. At the end of November 2010 the Orca will be launched. Orca is the Versatile's new name. Changes have been made to the. steering handles, lifting handle, seat, electrical system, subframe, mirrors, chain conductor and chain flow, cover hinge, head light fixture, indicators, final drive, horn etc.

In 2008 we start developing PSS, the Parallel Shifting System. Patented by Flevobike and Gazelle. PSS is a derailleur system(chain link system) that is adapted so it can be wrapped and gears can be changed while pedaling forward and backwards. By wrapping it it's a low-maintenance system. It combines the low maintenance part of a gear hub with the high efficiency of a derailleur system. 

From 1993 -2006 Flevobike worked on a very special project, the GreenMachine. It all began with an idea Johan had that was developed further by Robert Sluijter, a student that graduated at Flevobike. The GreenMachine was the answer to the growing demand for a low-maintenance bicycle. Now that Flevobike had it's Bridgeport milling machine and the necessary software, we could finally start working on the GreenMachine. The GreenMachine had been completely designed with 3D drawing software. The parts have been produced with the help of computer operated machines, which ensures accuracy.

In 2006 it's finally there: the launch of the new GreenMachine. Because of the enclosed design, rain, mud and grit do not affect the chain drive. A commuter can ride his bike in all sorts of weather and doesn't have to maintain his chain and drive as he normally would. The 14 gear Rohloff hub makes changing gear a piece of cake! By using high-quality disk-brakes taking on a steep descent isn't a problem anymore. All testdrivers say the ventilating, tightly mounted back rest is unique and very comfortable.

Jan Maarten Heideman, a well known and very successful marathon skater, first had the idea of a quick-change-skate. During the long races on natural ice he had trouble with the blades, after skating on the bad quality ice for a while the blades were blunt and got damaged. He had to change his skates, which took a long while to do and, being in a race, that was really bad. There had to be a quicker and better way to change skates/blades.

There already was a prototype of the quick-change-skate available and Flevobike was asked to improve it. The special thing about the quick-change-skate is that the blade can be changed in a matter of seconds without taking off the shoe. Ofcourse in marathon skating, as in every racing sport, it is very important to lose as little time as possible changing equipment. On the quick-change-skate a trained skater can even change 1 blade while skating on 1 leg!

After the successful prototype was made, a limited number of quick-change-skates were produced and sold.

Flevobike collaborates with Giant and focuses on futuristic developments. Together we develop several products, for example the G16, a compact citybike.

The Versatile is introduced. The Versatile is more comfortable, has better driving qualities and improved safety. The Versatile has a totally enclosed driving mechanism. You steer with two handles that are placed on top of the front wheel guards. Because the crankshafts and seat are adjustable the Versatile can be used by people from 1.65m to 2.00 meters tall.

Getting into the Versatile is very easy, just open the hinged lid and get in. Because there is no steering wheel there is more than enough space to get in.

Flevobike already has a very successful velomobile, the Alleweder, one of the best selling velomobiles in the 90's. Flevobike wants to develop it further and improve the design and technique. 

The new and improved Alleweder was named Versatile, to emphasize the versatility of the bike. Flevobikes Versatile aims for the enthusiastic recumbent bike driver that want to own a ' Versatile' practical velomobile.

Current models Bike, Trike, Racer, Oke-ja, Back-to-Back tandem, Basic and the Fifty-fifty to other manufacturers.

This year Flevobike extends even further. The property that was purchased in 1992 has an expansion of 2 stories added to it.

The Oké-Ja is introduced at the FietsRAI. It’s the first recumbent bicycle that costs less than one thousand guilders, which is about € 450,- now.

The Fifty-Fifty is born, a compact and quick recumbent bike for daily use.

Flevobike is the first recumbent bicycle producers to achieve a collaboration with one of the big bicycle manufacturers. The Flevobike Basic / Batavus Relaxx is released!

Flevobikes ‘Alleweder’ is the winner of  the’ 365 dagen FIETSprijs’(the 365 days Bicycle award).

The neighbors building is acquired and used to assemble and sell the bikes.

Two more models are added: the 'Trike' and the 'Racer'.

Flevobike, joined by  the recumbent bike association(NVHPV), Jouta, Thys roeifietsen and M5 have the first joint recumbent bike stand on the Fiets-Rai, which is a fair about bicycles.

The ‘Flevobike’ was used as a project for 15 KMBO students. After finishing their project in June they took a 3-day trip on their self-made ‘Flevobikes’.

The First ‘Flevobike’ was built, front wheel driven, divisible and spring-loaded.

In 1985-1986 several types of recumbent bicycles were built, for Johan to commute to work.

Flevobikes history starts in 1984. Johan and his family moved from Lelystad to a street called the Morinel in Dronten.  Johan designed and built the house himself, with the help of his wife, their children and several acquaintances.
