Roof
The roof is a unique combination of a special closed cell foam that is enclosed on both sides with textile which makes the roof very quiet, soft and light. To attach the roof on a velomobile, 2 aluminum ribs (size ø10x1) have been inserted in the sides. On the Quest, Mango and Alleweder to get into the bike the roof is folded forward to access the opening. On the Versatile, Orca and Sunrider the roof is attached to the hood so it will If there is no use for the roof it can easily be folded and put away in the velomobile. 

The Velomobile roof is suitable for most velomobiles and is supplied as a kit.

We start with assembling the roof that consists of several parts:

  • 1x foam roof 
  • 2x aluminum bent tubes (wire end M5 and 20 cm shrink sleeve)
  • 1x window
  • 2x aluminum cornerpieces
  • 2x grommet
  • 2x synthetic eye joint links with quick relaese
  • 2x round heads torx bolts M5x12
  • 2x washers M5
  • 2x self locking nuts M5
  • 2x pieces of velcro (hook) 
  • 13x sets of thumb nails

First you can screw the synthetic eye joint links on to the tubes, then mount the grommets into the aluminum cornerpieces (the bolts are placed last), Slide the corner with the gromment into the synthetic eye joint link and mount the quick release.

Assembly window

Make sure the work surface is smooth and can't scratch the window.

Peel off the protecting foil that's on the window and lay it down flat. Place 5 thumb nails(male part)·underneath the window(5 holes on the top). Turn the roof over and place it on top of the window. Press the female part of the thumnails on the male part (you can use a plastic hammer to lock them together carefully). The sides of the window·can be attached in the same way. Now slide the aluminum tubes into the tunnels of the roof. This can be a bit hard, beware of bending the tubes any further. Slide the tubes to the end of the tunnel. Now the roof is ready to be mounted on the bike.

 
Assembly windscreen
A short manual on how to mount the windscreen. This is only an example, on other velomobiles it can be different.

Teken het eerste gat af, 7cm van de rand van het hoofdgat. Teken het midden van van het eerste gat af. Boor het eerste gat met een boortje van rond 5mm, kijk uit dat je niet doorschiet!
Draw on the first hole, 7 cm from the edge of the gap. Draw on the middle of the first hole. Drill the first hole with a ø 5mm drill. Please be careful not to drill too far.
Zet het ruitje met een druknagel vast. Zorg dat links en rechts gelijk is en zet de hoeklipjes vast met tape, wees er van bewust dat je genoeg ruimte overhoud om de rits te sluiten! Buig het ruitje nu in een kromming zodat alle lipjes mooi op de kap aansluiten.
Attach the window using a thumb nail. Bend the window in such a way that all the tips are alligned with the hood. Make sure left and right are equal and secure the corner tips with tape. Make sure you leave enough room to close the zipper. 
Boor nu 1 voor 1 de gaatjes door en zet er gelijk een druknagel in, werk vanuit het midden naar de hoeken. Uw windscherm is nu klaar voor gebruik, het is wel de bedoeling dat u over het ruitje heen kijkt. Bent u klein of zit u diep in de fiets dan kunt u van de bovenkant een strook afknippen (met een plaatschaar) en met een fijn schuurpapiertje braamvrij maken
Now drill the holes 1 by 1 and put in a thumb nail right after you've finished a hole, then go on o the next. Work from the middle to the edges. Now your windscreen is ready to use. Look over the window, not through it. If you are small or are have a lower seat you can cut off a strip using plate shears and smooth the edges with fine sandpaper.

  
  
 
Mounting on a Velomobile
To mount the roof is different for every velomobile, we have made a how-to for the Versatile (for the Orca will be added soon). Hover over the picture to see the explanation.

First thing to do is to put de two pieces of Velcro on the back of the hood. Deciding the exact position can be done by placing the roof on the bike and adding 1-2cm at the back to serve as a ventilating gap. The roof is now fixed to the back. Now measure the distance from the hole in the aluminum corner to the edge of the hood both left and right, remember this measurement or write it down. Now open the hood and draw the measurement you just took on it. The mark will be on the flat part of the stiffening rib (left and right). Now drill a hole ( ø 5) in the plastic.Now mount the two m5 bolts. On the inside put the self-locking nuts and washer on the bolts, tighten it well.
Now the roof is ready to use, if the roof has to be dismounted you can open the quick release of the forks and take the roof off. Don't forget to put the quick releases back in the forks so they don't get lost.  Enjoy your roof!
